Paul Gascoigne a.k.a ‘Gazza’ was born and raised in Gateshead and the midfielder signed schoolboy terms with Newcastle United, before turning professional at the club in 1985. During his senior career, Gazza also had spells with Tottenham Hotspur, Lazio and Rangers between 1985 and 1998 before returning to England with moves to Middlesborough and the Everton.
Though well known throughout Europe for his club career, his football career is particularly remembered for his 57 England caps and has been described by the National Football Museum as “the most naturally gifted English midfielder of his generation.” Gazza was part of the England teams that reached the semi-finals of both 1990 World Cup and the 1996 European Championships.
Gascoigne finally hung up his boots in 2004 and unfortunately his life became dominated by his well-documented emotional problems and he struggled particularly with alcoholism since retiring from professional football. But he is starting to get back on the right track and here’s your chance to get up close and personal with a footballing legend and experience an intimate on stage interview with ‘Gazza.’
Danny Posthill – Impressionist will also be performing on stage before the Gascoigne Q&A.
